This list is the first of many TOP 10 BENS. The first list is Top 10 actors and TV personalities. As with any list, there may be some readers that don’t agree with all the choices. Feel free to send in other Bens that you feel are worthy of the list. I wanted to make the list unique and shine some light on some lesser known Bens. So….. here is the first list
1. Ben Alexander- This Ben may not be well know to audiences today, but with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame(one for movies, one for radio and one for TV) he certainly had a large following. He started out as a child actor and went on to star in TV Classics Dragnet( “Just the facts ma’am”) and Fellony Squad as well as become a distiguised radio anouncer and film star.
2. Ben Agosto- Next on the List is a highly talented individual. Ok, to be honest I have never seen his work and have no idea if he is good or not. He is an ice skater and had competed at the Olympics and has made many television appearances over the years. So why is he included on a Top ten Ben list? Check out his ice skating partner. Nice work Ben!
3. Ben Affleck -Love him or hate him, you can’t go past the fact that this Ben has had a pretty big career. Goodwill Hunting is still a top ten movie for me and I prefer to think about this and his work with Kevin Smith, as opposed to some of his big budget flops (I’m looking at you Gigli!)
4. Ben Curtis- Dude, your on the list! You guys remember those awesome Dell computer commercials. They revolutionized they way Computers were sold. The actor that played Steve… you guessed it, a Ben.
5. Benjamin Mckenzie- You probably know this teen heart throb from his work on the OC as Ryan, the street fighting bad ass with the heart of gold. With the OC having run its course we haven’t heard much from this Ben. But as the saying goes, you cant keep a good Ben down. Expect big things in 09 from this Ben.
6. Ben Kingsley- Born Krishna Bhanji, Kingsley decided at a young age to change his name to sound more western in a bid to boost his aspiring acting career. It was at this pivotal moment that Kingsley made the life altering decision to change his name to Ben. With a powerful name to match his acting skills, it wasn’t long before Kingley was nailing down rolls left right and center. He is best know for his career defining portrayal as Mahatma Gandhi which earned him a an academy award. Here is a lesson for aspiring actors, want an academy award? Better change your name to Ben.
7. Ben Nicholas - This Ben made a name for himself as the “loveable” character Stingray from the TV show Neighbours. Many of Stingrays catch phrases like “spiggin”, “hufter” and “cake-taker”, have worked there way into the vernacular of fans of the show. This Ben has followed the blue print for former cast members of neighbours and now currently resides in London. For reasons that to this day baffle film scholars and historians, the British have a odd fascination with the show. To his credit Ben has landed massive roles in London that include the BBC fund-raiser Celebrity sissorhands, playing Jack in a stage show of Jack and the Beanstalk, and the icing on the cake… High school Musical- the live stage show! Not to forget the final key to having a successful transition post Neighbours, look out for Ben’s band- Ben and the Rayz (this is their actual name look it up on youtube!)
8. Ben Oxenbould- This Ben made has been a star of several Australian TV shows including playing a Ben in the Classic Hey Dad..! (Another note to aspiring actors, after changing your name to Ben, try to get a role as a character named Ben. It is a recipe for guaranteed success!) Also worth a look is his portrayal of Shane Warne from the comedy sketch show Comedy Inc.
9. Ben Barnes- Ben played Prince Caspian(and soon to play King Caspian in the next film) and despite the awful direction of the film (adding a teenage love scene and taking other deviations from the original story line) I thought was excellent. Despite not having a large portfolio of work, I am confident that Ben will continue to do the name proud in the years to come.
10. Ben Stiller- Last but certainly not least, this Ben encompasses all the qualities that make a top ten Ben. Zoolander is perhaps one of the greatest comedy movies of our time and Dodgeball is certainly on high rotation at my house. Stiller manages to pop up in many other movies providing cameo roles that often overshadow the lead. With no end insight to this glorious career, this Ben is a shinning example to all other Bens and I feel that by simply sharing the same name, I too can achieve great things! Thanks Ben Stiller.
